Papaya Seeds

The Many Uses of Papaya Seeds

If only people would learn to go back to basics, they’ll realize that everything they need has already been provided for by nature. Take, for example, the papaya. The soft sweet flesh of the papaya can be a source of food. The ripe ones can be eaten raw, while the unripe papayas can be added to salads and other dishes, including soups. You don’t have to throw the papaya seeds either. They still have quite a number of uses, perhaps even more than you ever know.

Papaya Seeds and Their Uses

1. You can grow more papayas.

One of the basic but perhaps the most important uses of the papaya seeds is propagation, and they turn out to be easier to cultivate or grow. Since papayas tend to grow tall, find larger or taller containers so you don’t have to change their pots later on. Of course, you’re going to need both male and female plants, though you have to let go of the male ones if you’re using containers. The pots may not be enough for them.

If you can properly take care of them, allow both male and female plants to bloom, they’ll start to bear fruit a little over a year. You can then consume them or, if you have an entrepreneurial spirit, you can sell them in your community.

2. You can prepare delish recipes with them.

You’re used to papayas being added to almost any type of dish, from salads to desserts—but papaya seeds? It turns out that you can actually add them too. In fact, many people, including chefs, love to sprinkle around two tablespoons of papaya seeds into salads. They make an excellent alternative to black peppercorns, which tend to be stronger for other people’s taste. The papaya seeds are also added in bruschetta.

3. They can tenderize meat.

Are you looking for more natural meat tenderizers? You don’t have to look farther. Better yet, take a peek in your yard. There’s a good chance that the solution is simply out there. The papaya seeds are enriched with not just vitamins but also enzymes, one of which can soften the meat. The process may take a while, but you’ll create a more natural and sometimes flavor-infused meat for all your well-loved recipes.

4. They can relieve itching.

Nobody wants to get bitten by mosquitoes. The bites aren’t only annoying but also extremely itchy. You cannot scratch them hard; otherwise, you’ll have plenty of scars. There are anti-itch lotions, but then you’re worried about chemicals. If you’re searching for something more organic, you can count on papaya seeds. They can break down proteins that cause bite inflammation, relieving you of the itchiness and the swelling.

There are reports that suggest carpine found in papaya seeds can be toxic, though a lot also say that when taken in human doses, they don’t pose any danger. If you’re worried, it’s best to stay away from seeds if you’re trying to conceive or if you’re suffering from an illness. Better yet, ask your doctor’s opinion.
